Mushiake, a picturesque coastal area in Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture, is where history and nature collide in a spectacular dawn display known as “Seto no Akebono” (Dawn of Seto). As the sun rises, the sky is set ablaze with soft hues of red and orange, a sight so captivating that it’s said to have entranced even Taira no Tadamori, a military commander from the Heian period, making him momentarily forget the grandeur of the capital.
This timeless view of the tranquil sea and sky overlooking the Seto Inland Sea has been touching hearts for centuries.
It’s a place where you can truly feel the harmonious blend of Japan’s rich history and stunning natural beauty.
Getting there: A quick 10-minute drive from Ohirayama IC on the Okayama Blue Line. Note: No parking available at the viewpoint.
