Along the western coast of Tango Peninsula lies the rocky shore of Amino Town, where small terraced rice paddies extend toward the Sea of Japan.
As the sun rises, azure skies and madder-red clouds mirror in the water-filled paddies, creating a scene that embodies Japan’s ancient landscape. These ocean-facing terraces reveal the harmonious relationship between nature and human cultivation.
This sacred ground holds special significance as the birthplace of Shizuka Gozen (1168-1211, celebrated historical figure and tragic heroine of the late Heian period), where natural beauty and historical narrative interweave to deeply move all who visit.
Getting there: Located along Prefectural Road 665 connecting Hatchohama and Yuuhigaura Onsen (Sunset Bay Hot Springs). Shizuka Shrine, dedicated to Shizuka Gozen, stands nearby. Parking: Not available
Photographed: Early May 2022, 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM
