Motosu-ko (Lake Motosu) stands out among the Fuji Five Lakes with its exceptional
water clarity and greatest depth. Its scenic beauty was once featured on the former
1000-yen note. At the foot of Mount Fuji extends a vast sea of trees, offering an
untouched natural landscape. The lakeshore, dotted with campgrounds, attracts
campers seeking the majestic presence of Mount Fuji and its abundant natural
surroundings. In early January, visitors seek out discovered viewing spots to witness
the enchanting Diamond Fuji phenomenon (when the sun rises exactly behind Mount
Fuji’s peak, creating a diamond-like brilliance atop the mountain), when the sunrise
aligns perfectly with the mountain’s peak.
Getting there: About 30 minutes by car from Kawaguchiko IC on Chuo Expressway.
Parking available.
Photographed: Early August 2019, 5:00 AM to 6:30 AM
Temperature: 22°C (71.6°F)
